Lower oil pan gasket today
On the N62 engine there is an upper and lower gasket. I'm hoping that was the culprit for the leak. Sure seemed to emanate from that area. It's not a hard job to do. I went ahead and bought a complete set of new bolts, and a new oil level sender oring. New bolts have a loctite looking coating on them. The original bolts did not have any coating. I did find a few very small plastic parts on the bottom of pan. I'm guessing they were chips from timing chain guides. My X5 is almost at 100K miles and at 13 years on the road. Gotta take it to the Indy shop because I'm having (I think) valley pan leakage And/or coolant transfer pipe leak. I'm getting both done anyway.

Hey man, is there a DIY thread or video online you used for guidance?
I have a 03 4.4 that is leaking onto the protector pan under the car, I need to also change the oil pan gasket. I thought it was impossible to change the oil pan gasket on X5s because they're are AWD, and require dropping the driveshaft. |
