Steering wheel shake is more likely from an issue with the front end. Unlikely to be rear bushes, more likely front wheels or tyres are the issue. Either out of balance wheels or egged wheels or damaged tyres. Do you have after market wheels? If so do you have hub rings otherwise called center bore locators, which locate the wheel correctly?

Hello. I have two sets of wheel. One original e53 with new tire for summer and the second wheel set original for e70 with center ring used for about 3000 miles for the winter. It shakes with both sets. I changed ball joint and bushing on trust arm on both sides in front and at back side i changed control arm, thrust arm on both side and ball joint on right side. The stering rack is ok. Now i am clueless. And also my car mechanic...

When it shakes, are you always slightly turning to one side, or straight ;
and when it doesn't shake are you always slightly turning to the other side, or straight?
I'm thinking one side of your X5 could be being loaded up,
for example, if your wheel bearings on one side are shot. ?

I had a similar problem, the car only shook at highway speeds, and only within a specific range. It ended up being that one of the weights on the wheels fell off. Having the tires re-balanced solved the problem.

I got tire cupping on mine which I thought was wheel bearings but my Indy said it was tires.
