BTW - original diagnosis was "Fuel Injection Pressure Regulator" - which has been replaced. Initially running fine but starting to bog again.

If they are a non Euro shop what did they use to pull the code?

Connect a fuel pressure gauge at the fuel rail and see what type of pressure you have with KOEO (key on engine off) and with the engine running. Might not have been a bad regulator, but a bad fuel pump.

Your engine doesn't have a DISA valve because it has enough torque in it already.

upallnight - thank you for the suggestions. I've got a call in to determine what kind of code reader the shop uses - assume it's something generic - but will for sure suggest a pressure test for the fuel pump. Thanks again.

Dead thread, but this is the only thread with useful info on a DTC of 2B71 for the DME. Just to be clear, Bzuefishx, you have an e53 4.8is N62 engine, right? The heated steering wheel threw me, because I didn't think that was an option, unless it only came on '06.
I've had the same code (along with a bunch others, but that needs another thread), and an indy had no idea what to do with it. So check fuel pressure? Mine is at 158k, with a fuel pump replaced at 125k, but I know the fuel filter has never been replaced.
