Oil Filter Cover...

Question...

After pulling my stiffening plate and seeing all the caked on grimy dirt and oil, I am wondering if it is because of my Oil Filter Cover.

See, the oil drain plug in the cover has been jammed in there for as long as I have had the vehicle, so when I change the oil, I just remove the entire cartridge cover all at once - that's when a lot of oil goes flying.

If you are able to remove the drain plug in the cover first, I would think that will lessen the amount of oil that splashes around.

Is this so?

- You can leave the stiffening plate out of the car, but make sure you tighten the 16-mm bolts that hold the sway bar. save the other bolts to re-install later.
- Then clean the engine with rag, Purple power and water etc.
Now the engine is clean, you can monitor oil leak daily.

Not sure I'd agree with that but to each his own.

Thanks, but that's a bridge too far for me.

The vehicle should not under any circumstances be driven with the plate removed. It is an integral part of the suspension.
