Oil coming out exhaust

It's a cold winter in Canada, driving to work the other day I lost all my oil. Had it towed home and found that the alternator bracket gasket had let go. Thanks to slickgt1's write up I've replaced the gasket and the car is running again with no leaks from the engine bay, but I have excessive smoke and liquid oil coming out of the exhaust.

Any idea what is going on?

I am not familiar with V8's and don't understand how an alternator gasket (which I thought was liquid cooled) would cause an oil leak.

However If oil got into exhaust from this leak, it will take a while for it to clear..

OK, slow down...If you didn't have the issue before, I have a feeling what you are seeing is the oil that was dumping out of the gasket coated the exterior of your exhaust. Tough to diagnose over the internet, but I would suggest you look at my theory before anything else. The gasket and interior of your exhaust in no way are related. Now, if you ran the motor without oil because of the leak, that is a whole different situation.

It was definitely covered in oil, after going over it methodically, it appears it just carbon built up in the exhaust mixing with moisture making tiny black puddles in the snow. I’m just paranoid after replacing that gasket. Living where it’s cold I worry about the oil separator freezing and causing problems. I took it for a drive and it ran great and there’s no oil on the ground so she’s good for now ��

N62 engines are known to smoke for a few reasons.
One would be the membranes being torn.Is there a lot of suction when you remove oil filler cap with engine idling?

The smoke has cleared up and it’s running fine but there is quite a bit of suction on the oil cap at idle, is this a ccv problem? I’ve read a bit about ccv or oil separator freezing in colder climates creating pressure and blowing gaskets. Regardless I’d like to reroute or “ delete “ that system but I’ve only come across walkthroughs for the 3.0

From my understanding there shouldn't be oil cap suction on any of these engines.

My suction was fixed by replacing the CCV but that was on a 3.0

Simple, your PCV system has failed, as in, the two hoses that go over the rear of your intake manifold are spongy, just squeeze them to see for yourself. When they get moisture in them and a hard freeze, they are restricted which pulls or sucks oil into cylinder, usually on driver side. That is issue I had several years ago. I ended up replacing hoses and the oil trap and PVC valve as part of your CCV unit, no other problems for years, so look there first and foremost.
