Pulled the pump today and it has been replaced with a off brand pump that I had never heard of before. The tank was almost bone dry on the passenger side and the bulk of the fuel was still on drivers side. Is the sucking jet pump lines supposed to connect to the fuel pump? Neither pump has a fitting to connect to the in tank lines; I bought a genuine BMW replacement pump. I cant upload photos at the moment and I have not established another pic host since they killed Picasa so they will have to wait. You can see heat discoloration at the bottom of the pump I removed.

Good day!

I have to do some more research, but I'll let you know of a mistake I made a while back with my 540i... The fuel pump died at around 208K miles... And when I say died, it quit working and never recovered... Even after cooling down...

When I replaced it, I failed to verify the bottom end was seated correctly in the locater in the bottom of the tank... This caused the suction system to not work properly... I pulled it the next day and verified it was seated in place... It worked...

The one night I did drive it, it had half a tank, but sputtered like it was out of fuel... I was moving at the time and did a hard left and right on the steering wheel... Fuel sloshed over to the pump side and I was moving under power again...

Might be totally different situation, but I'd throw that out there...

Good luck!!

Cheers!!

I have 1/4 of a tank of fuel but it is all on the drivers side and is not transferring over to the passenger side for some reason. I have found the following string on the jet pump and it sounds like we have the same issue. https://xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/...stic-help.html

If you got 1/4 of a tank of gas on the left side but the right side was bone dry, your transfer pump is not working. Now it could be due to the fact that a failing fuel pump wasn't able to create the siphon necessary to siphon the fuel from the left side to the right side. I would just use the OBC to monitor the gas level in the tank. If the left side has gas but the right side is running dry you have a fuel transfer problem.

Hopefully, you put some gas in the tank before starting the engine. A fuel pump needs gas to cool it down or else you will wear it out quicker.
