About to buy... 4.4 or 4.8 help!

Like i said in my last post my dad is about to place an order for a new x5. The plan was to get a fully loaded 4.4 the whole time but just recently he has expressed interest in the 4.8. What can i tell him besides better resale value in the 4.8... He's going to order tuesday afternoon so i need some good stuff to help fully convince him to get the 4.8. We have a 540 and a M3 so he loves the performance aspect of the 4.8 but he also doesnt like the price.

Any feedback would be great!

Basically everything you're going to order with the 4.4 is standard on the 4.8 except navigation.

right on! A fully loaded 4.4 (with everything but retractable load floor), comes to an MSRP of $66,290... while a 4.8 with navigation (again without retractable load floor) totals to an MSRP of $73,745. Subtract the difference, and it yields to $7,455. Granted, you might get a better discount on a 4.4i, however just to get the 20's will cost you a pretty penny. You also get the more powerful engine, and nappa leather, which is not available in the 4.4.

The 4.8 is aweful almost annoying when driving in traffic, so that is something to consider

The only time this is remotely true is if you leave the transmission in sport mode when driving in traffic. Other than that however, the 4.8 is an awesome truck (had to Kaefer), I mean SAV.

I was under same situation when I ended up buying the 4.8. I loaded up the 4.4 and there was little price difference. What did for me was;
If I had bought 4.4 I would have added the 4.8 body kit and 20" wheels which would have turned out more expensive than a 4.8 but with a 4.4 engine and non-nappa, non-alcantara interior. With 4.8 you also get a nice sporty exhaust note. So saved myself the pain of doing the mods. Also when you sell /trade-in the 4.4 down the road the dealer does not put any value on the options/packages other than nav. You can check this on www.galves.com

I don't agree, I only drive it in "D" when in traffic, the gear changes are too rough and the brakes make it difficult to make smooth stops, so it ends up being very jerky for 10 miles of my commute or it takes too much concentration and makes me tired after the drive. Don't get me wrong though, I love my X5, its just not my preferred mode of transportation when I know I have to drive in traffic.

I have 4.4, If you really like HP, you can get the Dinan supercharger for 420hp or so for 13000.

Sound like you need a tranny software upgrade.
