Bluetooth Connection Wont Pair
iPhone 6, Version 8.3 BMW Professional Head Unit (no nav) Bluetooth was working fine then mysteriously lost connection. Now when I try to pair on my iPhone, it says it is unable to connect. I can see the BT identified on my phone (BMW*****). I have gone through the set up process but I must be missing something. Here is what I am doing: 1. In driver seat with seat belt on 2. turn key to position 1 3. iPhone has identified the car 4. tap on the BMW***** on iPhone to activate pairing 5. Phone times out with the note that it can not connect. What am I doing wrong? It is funny, when I bought this X5 last November and looked for videos instructions, I could find a bunch some even from dealerships. Now they all seem to be for iDrive. I have the original BMW manual for the BT. This seems to be different in that it says to hold the icon with the talking face for about three seconds but that still isn't working. I appreciate any help. |

Answered my own question. I had to reset the bluetooth module. I realized when I would push the phone button or any of other related controls nothing happened. No "no phone connected" or anything.
Reset the BT module and it paired instantly. |

How did you reset the module?

All you need to do is remove the cover where the CD player is located. Then, lift the spare tire cover up. On the side, down below where the CD is and other components are, you will see a rectangular silver box. This is your BT module. To access this, you will need to remove the plastic inset that is mounted to the floor directly in front of the BT module. There are three 10mm plastic nuts. Remove those and the plastic cover just lifts up. You will then have access to the two plastic 10mm nuts that holds the BT module in place. Once the BT module is out, unplug the large multi-pin connector. Let the module sit unplugged for about 30 seconds or so. Plug the connector in and then check to see if this solved your connectivity issue. If all is well, reassemble.
It is worth noting that when I pulled mine out, it was super hot. I don't know what the normal operating temp of the unit is. However, it has been really hot here with the outside temp being about 100. When the BT went on the fritz, it was about 110 outside. Maybe it just couldn't handle the extreme temp inside the car. |
