NEED SOME ADVICE

Hi All,

Some of you know I recently did the timing guides and chains on my 01 x5 4.4. I also did the upper and lower oil pan gaskets. Two big jobs. I only have 112,000 miles on the engine. I had a few error codes so I decided to take it an Indy shop in Sacramento (Prestige Auto Works). They found 3 codes 033, 028 and 029. To fix the problem they wanted to replace the engine ($6,000). I paid them for the diagnosis and took my keys.

If anyone have any experience with them codes, please point me in the right direction to fix. Lastly, they also told me that the intake is leaking. I have already ordered the gasket set.

Thanks

028 and 029---additive mixture adaption reached for bank one and two.
030 is heater control circuit, bank one sensor one.

028 and 9 could be because of intake leak or several other potential problems such as Bad MAF, sticking throttle body etc. 030 is harder to determine core issue.

Before addressing 030 I suggest repairing the intake leak, clear the codes and see what returns. The intake leak could be causing all the codes. How is the engine running?

Thanks for your reply. I will try to document how I fixed these codes so other will have a starting point. I also notice, on occasions, it sometimes let out white smoke when cranked/starting. I think that maybe the ccv needs replacing. It has a slightly rough ilde by runs fine.

So your engine runs fine , but you get a few codes that trigger the SES light and they want to replace your engine? Awful shop. Since you did the timing guides yourself why not invest in a scanner that can help diagnose your vehicle and you can do the work? You are already 10 times a better mechanic than the shop you just took your vehicle to.

If the problem showed up just after the timing chain job you could have the timing off.

Thanks, I'll follow your lead. Just ordered intake gasket set and the CCV.

Thanks for your reply. I order the BMW scanner of Ebay and got the same codes. I'm tired of working on the truck until the shop wanted 6,000.00 to fix my problem.

I had the codes before I did the timing chain job with the hope this will solve the problem or just give me peace of mind on the timing guides.

One of the things that I have definitely found helpful on these vehicles that get some age and miles is having the engine smoked. When this happens you can identify a number of leaks that can ultimately trigger a number of codes and tri the SES.
