Removing the bottom bolt was not bad. Long wrench angled from the passenger's side. If you stand in front of the passenger's headlight, you can get your fingers and wrist aligned to allow turning the bolt. Still, had to gently prise the harmonic balancer away from the motor to let the bolt out. I'll certainly be grinding a couple mm off that bolt for re-fit.
Good day!

I'm rather thin and have long thin fingers just made to get into these tight spaces... I've done a few water pump pulls at the YPIY, and always just saved that bottom bolt for last... just leave it there after its out, but trapped... pull the pump... it'll come out with the pump... install is the reverse... this is only if you don't happen to have the 50 or 55 torx bit... I got a set of eight, hardened, ranging from like 30 to 70 for 20 bucks... harbor freight, I think... eight crank pulley bolts, just loosen, with the belts still in place will work...

I wouldn't lever against the cover to hard... that cast aluminum is only a protector and not very thick!

Great job!

Cheers!

Indeed, but even with the pump tilted, the bolt was still hanging up. Just took a little prising to free it. I ground 2mm or so from the bottom bolt so it would fit in squarely and it threaded in easy peasy.

Now, I want to empty the block as the owner was topping up with the Prestone green AF... I've not crawled under yet, but do you have to remove the skid pan to access the block drains? Really don't want to remove the skid pan. Otherwise I'll just flush the crap out of it with tap water then add straight BMW AF until half the system capacity, then top off with distilled.

So no, there's no way to access the block drains without removing the skid plate. So we just put 6L straight AF in, then it was full. The rest was water. Now the car idles like purring silk.
