I have a OEM on my drivers and a Febi on the passenger, I have to say, both replaced at the same time and both still working. The reason was that they only had one OEM on the shelf when I needed it.

I can tell you, the parts are very similar other than the fit is slightly out on the febi, but if you are clever with the door screw and the gaskets you can get them to fit really nicely. Also I would change the cable out of the old carrier and switch it with the new. It is very likely the cable and ball is fine and its just the carrier bracket that has just broken. The original cable and ball clipped on to the febi part and then made it easier to fit as it was already curved to fit in the shape.

Good luck, btw, have some spare plastic door card fixings (white ones) as I broke a couple in getting the door card out and the job took me an hour. Beware the air bag also!

Not sure how many have done this but, i actually dropped the only screw inside door and there is no way to recover it... So hopefully your new one comes with a screw so that you will have a back up. The second time i did the door carrier, i made sure to use the black stickey glue thing they use to hold the plastic barrier to the door. Good luck with it

Its going to take more than a week to get my parts unless I want to spend $175 plus tax and shipping to a dealership in Denver. I think I'll just wait. I can use the inner handle for a while.

I ordered new gaskets for the handle, and a set, 10 I think, of new door clips. I plan to disconnect the battery first thing, then take the airbag all the way out when it comes time. That should give plenty of time for the brain to go to sleep and not throw any codes when everything is reconnected.

I think next time I will try the FEBI, I just thought that for the first round I would eliminate some of the possible issues with fit. It all sounds quite easy from behind the computer screen.

Well, it went fairly well. Took 2.5 hours from pulling tools out to having them put away. I disconnected the battery and fully removed the air bag. I used a BMW carrier, and it fit perfectly. We spent about 45 minutes though trying to get the front handle in right. Everything looked right, but the handle would not drop down onto the door properly. I finally figured out that I needed to pry the latch up higher, or out farther, WHILE I was inserting and turning the front handle into place. I was only prying the latch out at the point of trying to get it over the stud that has the 8mm nut on it. Once I started lifting that latch way up with a pry tool while inserting the front handle, everything dropped right into place.

Everything else went well, until I was putting one of the last two screws in and realized I had left an old T-shirt stuffed in the door to catch anything I dropped down in there - Doh!! Once the shirt was removed, everything worked perfectly.

Thanks for all the tips. I think the next time - in the unlikely event that another door carrier ever breaks, 🙄 It will take closer to an hour.
