It takes a good amount of driving to charge but takes many months to self drain.

You would have to cut open to determine if the battery is charging and it's tough to determine what contacts may be shot.
My fob is screwed together so I'll probably open up to Repair but I've been planning to replace my lost key before doing this in case I killed the immobilizer chip but I can maybe open to take a photo to show you.

On the charging part I ran across this but I have not tested this :

I use a wireless toothbrush charger to charge my keys. It seems to be working since the battery is never dead.

I'm not sure the frequency used for the keys. The technology is the same but if may not be very effective. That said. You can leave 24/7 on the tooth brush charger. I am curious now

I ran across several people saying that leaving the key on the toothbrush charger fried the key eventually. I have NO CLUE if that is right or not just passing on what I read.

They did not hurt a key fob from constant charging. The fob likely coincidentally just had a short joint failure.

It's not great to trickle charge any modern chemistry battery so I wouldn't leave them charging for days. If the frequency is compatible it would work for sure.
