Great Video - Other options?
I like Avin, I'll start by saying that. However, I've seen the INAV unit which appears to use your existing radio, but with a screen mounted on the dashboard somehow.
I guess I'm wondering how on earth I would install this and part of the motivation for getting a new unit is because the current head unit really doesn't work right any longer. It has lost a lot of its pixels and you can't turn it on and off with the button on any longer. I'm looking for thoughts. This INAV unit is available from 4x4 Canada. |

That’s the likely plan
I’m going to try the Avant 4 on my E46 M3 and go from there. The INAV has a really nice LG screen, but Avin has been around a lot longer.

If you don't mind posting it publicly, what options (which are many) did you go with and what was you total cost?
I am looking at this unit as well. I have NAV and DSP and the factory unit is now totally dead. Looks like the cost for what I want is close to $500? Does that sound right? And do you need to use their NAV maps or will the factory NAV work with the unit? I would want to upgrade to the latest maps available.

I can help timmyc. You need:
This will get you up and running but you will need to use offline Google Maps for navigation or hot spot your phone and use Waze or equivalent. I bought the iGO GPS Maps MicroSD Card from them and like the interface, it just misses the real time traffic information. You could also consider the AutoPlay Adapter w/ Support for CarPlay and Android Auto at $99.99 and I also have this and works beautifully with both Android or Apple products and Apple Car Play is wireless (Android still requires a physical cable connection) This would negate the need for the iGo maps option as the system will use the Android or Apple CarPlay maps of your choice. A few other options would be a back up cam or front and rear DVR recorder. I bought the DUAL DVR Camera System - Records front and back camera at the same time and is ok but the resolution is 720p for the front and 480p in the rear. It gets the job done and I always have dash cam recordings for front and rear but videos are 1 minute clips. Then decide if you want a TPMS, digital TV or any USB extensions. Remember you only get 3 USB inputs on the system. My Avin Avant-4 system with my personal options (non factory navigation X5) are:
Total $729.92

Thanks, OB for that reply.
That first set up that you have posted is exactly what I had clicked up for options. I was just unsure about the maps. The NAV is what I am most interested in as I use it daily for work. Sounds like you are telling me to opt for their system? I'm a little slow....

It comes with a gps antena, but if you have factory nav you won't need it, just the extension cable. |
