How's your project so far? Do you have to take out the old engine?
I've been thinking about how much work and how hard it would be to do an engine out service. Mine is running fine, but at 110,000 miles, it has a oil leak that requires a quart of refill every couple months, it has a slight coolant leak after I replaced the alternator, and i like to replace the engine mount and the steering u-joint while i have the engine out. Plus i want to refinish the cam covers, replace the timing chain and guide, and replace and reseal all the gaskets to stop the nagging oil leak. If anyone's done the engine out service please post a link so I can learn from the masters! Thanks very much! Theo

I ended up replacing the engine with a good used 4.6 with timing guides done already, it ended here https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...th-of-a-M62B46
I replaced that with a refreshed 4.4 that I built myself, It's really not that hard to pull the engine, working good for now 10k miles in |
