white_335i is on a distinguished road
Just bought an E53 X5

Hello All,

Bought an 05 3.0 last week and want to say hi to the group. My first X5, but definitely not my first BMW. Have couple other bimmers in the garage, an E46 330i, E46 M3 and a K1200S. Owned few E90's in the past but always went back to the E46 era cars. This time no turning around and will stick with the old bimmers.. I do recognize couple screen names from the E46fanatics forum(Joe aka Overboost)

On to the car, 05 3.0 Auto with 129K miles. Bought this as a fixer upper from a local BMW indy.. A customer had the car towed to the indy(the car died on her because the battery went dead due to a bad alternator) and never ended up picking it up. It sat at the indy's lot for a year and the indy finally got the title transferred to him and sold it.

Right off the bat, the car needs a battery, alternator, tires. I just started tearing things apart in the engine bay.. Replacing alternator, belts, pulleys, OFHG gasket, Pulling the intake manifold off to replace CCV and other gaskets. Replacing the leaking power steering reservoir and hoses, valve cover gasket, spark plugs, beisan vanos seals, camshaft sensors. Also, going to replace the fuel filter and fuel pump. The car shuts off at idle and need to give gas to keep her running. With the amount of miles and the car sitting with bad gas, thought replacing the fuel filter and pump might be a good idea.

I have the entire cooling system refresh and all the suspension bushings on my to do list for the later part of the year. I also need to replace the front axle boots and might as well replace the motor mounts and oil pan gasket around the same time and seal the engine up for another 100k.

With that being said, looking forward to be an active participant/contributor to the group.
