My secondary air pump blows like crazy on a cold start but I can't feel any exhaust or anything coming out of the valve thing on the cylinder head side so I'm going to look into that further..

[strike]I tried checking out my aux water pump but haven't found it yet really..
Key on and heater all the way on hot, fans on lowest, it sounds like something is running under my intake manifold toward the firewall but I don't know if I'm just hearing the blower fan from the heater..
I tried feeling for flow in the coolant hoses running to the heater core and didn't feel anything..

Where is this aux water pump located?
I'm not exactly finding a wealth of information searching on it.. Hmmm..[/strike]

Ok I found the pump, I get a voltage to it..
4V and 12V switching back and forth every 20 seconds or so.. 20sec at 4V and 10sec at 12V kinda..

I put 12V to the pump in both directions and nothing, no spark or anything like it's an open circuit..
Darn multimeter won't read resistance anymore so I dodn't get a reading on that...

So yeah it seems like the pump is shot..
Does that 4V - 12V cadence sound right?

Switching back and forth between 5-12V is normal behavior.... the system tries to feed the pump, as soon as it recognizes no power consumption it switches back to 5v and checks again after a few seconds with 12V...
Pump seems to be shot in this case, you wont see a spark... the amperage of the pump is too low!

But the pump makes noise and vibrates... so if it doesn’t turn on when fed with 12V, you need a new one!

We have new scans...
Since the last time I cleared this I have taken off the SES valve, cleaned it, and tested the system by hooking the valve to the pump but not the head..
The pump does infact blow through the valve, but the valve is quite hard to blow through.. I will have to scan it again and/or wait for another CEL from it to see if it is still throwing a code..
I haven't really been able to figure out how to turn on the pump and look at the MAF reading on it from INPA..

Diagnosed this, motor is an open circuit.. Good power from wire..

Here is what I think are the "fuel trims" that I see a lot of people using to look for vacuum leaks and such..




Everything is pretty much right at zero.. That means it's good right?
I took that screenshot at idle on a fully warmed up engine..


I really don't want to pay $80 for that water pump right now and don't really want to go tearing it apart trying to fix it right now because of the water and it being super cold out situation so I'm probably not going to mess with that for a bit..

I'm getting warmed up for a catchcan and PVC conversion because this thing gets a lot lot of cold starts at 0-25 F and we do let it idle for minutes to warm up.. We leave it idle in town when we go into stores often too, but this does ensure that it does get fully up to temp almost every day..
So yeah I want to do that, because I will be letting it idle a lot no matter what BMW says, because it's freezing cold and it doesn't even have seat warmers, and I even want to add a remote start eventually..
