You are correct




Considering dealer costs, the software is actually quite cheap. I can program a new key for about $60. It's possible the DMW and EWS need to be realigned but I think that's worst case. I got a reply and the seller seems to think it's worth $1000 - $3000. I tried very hard not to be condescending in my reply and asked to see it this weekend. No response yet.



I'm thinking $3k to $5k. Even used parts for these aren't cheap. Modules and sensors always going out or parts showing wear. Ebay is a goldmine of used X5 parts, panels and trim.
An EWS DME re-alignment is the "Best Case" scenario. You don't need to buy any new part and it can be done without getting your hands dirty. I can realign an EWS module and DME in less than 15 minutes.

Perhaps they threw in a new DME because and didn't realize that you need to get the EWS module align with the DME.
