New Owner - CD Player - how to?

We just bought a 2006 X5 3.0D.

It has a CD changer in the boot under a cover on the left side, along wiht he GPS system.

But on the front console, there is no selection for the CD player - or radio (DSP?).

The selections we have are

Computer
Navigation
Setup
Television
Telephone
and Code (grey)

The car also didn't come with the manual for the sound system.

Any idea how to get the sound system working?

I would check to see if the changer is connected. Mine wasn't when I bought it.

Yeap you have to cycle through the mode button bottom right. It switches Radio/cd/ect - mine says no disc when I get to the changer as there are no discs in it... but I have a disc in the front loader.

In regards to an owners manual...if you have access to the internet...type the following phrase into a google (or your search engine of choice):

Type or copy & paste "BMW MKIV owners manual PDF" into a google search box and you should get multiple links to downloadable Nav owners manuals. Don't get hung up on the model year...the MKIV (wide screen nav) is the same for all e38/e39/e53 models...heck...you could read through the small screen navs (MK I, II, III) and extrapolate the functions to the MKIV...the design architecture is basically the same.

Ditto above...the MODE button will allow you to select AM/FM, TAPE, or CDC...and the TONE/SELECT button along the right side will allow you to make other selections (the "select" features are pictured below) depending on which audio function you are listening to:

Thanks for all the replies.

I found the manual online.

And after reading it, discovered that I have to turn on the sound system by pressing the volume control knob.

I had thought the sound system was already on when the screen was on (as is in my other car).!

Cheers,

JG

Smile

Thanks for the Thumbs Up!!

Yes, I a hate it when the OP finds a solution, but does not bother to post it in the thread.

While somewhat new to BMWs and this forum (last time I owned a BMW, the Internet did not exist!!!), I am a long-time member and contributor of the Delica forum, and so am used to posting solutions when found.

Cheers,

JG
