Convert 4.8is N62B48 to N62B48 from E60 Doable?

Hi All

I'm on to a low mileage 2004 4.8is that has issues in the bottom end (spun bearing I think)....

Anyways... Talking to my indy and he is suggesting dropping a second hand motor would be simpler and cheaper than pulling it out and reconditioning it.

I have tracked down a 4.8 engine from a 2005 e60 550i that comes as a bare long (complete without hoses/wiring) with about the same mileage on it as the X5.

Financially it stacks up to do so, but am unsure about the differences between essentially the same engine in different applications.

Is there anyone here that knows the details or can point me to successful engine swaps?

Cheers

While I don't know the V8s at all, the sump is an obvious area of difference, with the E53 application having a sump that supports the front diff. But I'm sure you are thinking of swapping the old E53 sump over to the E60 donor engine...

2005 did not have a 550i, it was a 545i. Same motor as the 4.4i X5. N62B44. It is not a N62B48 though. They mechanically are the same as for the valvetronic set up, etc. I am more the positive the running specs are different on the B48(4.8is motor) as well as possibly different camshafts and etc.

The 2004-06 e53 X5 4.8is has the N62b48 engine.
The 2005-10 e60 550i has the N62b48TU engine.

I believe a gentleman in another forum got this done, should be an easy search. From what I recall, he replaced the pan, possibly heads, intake (only the e53 got the DIVA intake with a 4.8), etc. I remember he had to tap the block as well, as the header bolts are not in the same places.
