Yeah the valve doesnt always solve the problem.

If you are a tinkerer it's worth a try, but if you will be paying someone to do it I recommend just replacing the compressor, especially if you will be keeping the car and you live in a hot area.

Crowz will become famous soon enough
For $100 or so the new compressor cost vs the $15 for the valve it seems a good idea to do just the valve. The problem is if it doesn't work which in my case it didn't I was out all the hassle of removing the compressor (have to do that to change the valve), pulling a vacuum, Freon, etc just to lose it all and have to do it over again.

So valve cost, Freon plus labor involved makes that $100 compressor the smarter bet. This way you KNOW it will be fixed and only have to do the job once. The compressor should last 200,000 miles or so. Even if the valve worked you would be replacing the compressor soon anyways since it has to have a bunch of miles on it for the valve to be bad to start with.

Its just not worth it. Play it smart and change the compressor.

I added the ICE-32 and I've seen some improvement, i don't know if I'll be seeing more improvement or not but I've figure if the problem is not gone within the week, I will just replace the compressor, especially now that the summer is almost here and I don't want to be waiting even 5 minutes when is over a hundred here in sunny Las Vegas...

I'm not familiar with ICE-32, what's that and what does it do?

It's good there is improvement, but with the AC system it should cool adequately on-demand, anytime. Otherwise something's wrong.

Yeah it would suck if it starts acting up in traffic during the summer!

Quick update:

ICE-32 did help improve the system (a lot), I guess it will be better if you use it as soon as the problem starts, or better yet, before it starts.

But at the end of the day, specially here in Vegas, I want the system to start right away, so I'll replace the compressor and stop worrying.

ICE-32 is a compressor reconditioner with dye.

I would replace the compressor with a conventional type, rather than another variable displacement, which may have the same delay problem eventually.

What is the advantage to a variable displacement compressor vs. conventional? At least what was the advantage BMW perceived when going with them? Does it help vary the pressures with ambient temp changes or something?

MPG benefits with the variable.

BMW used a conventional compressor with the 4.4 and 4.8 ( I think) so there is no other benefit I can see.

Is there a link for one that’s the conventional type. I’d like to use that one as well.

I think this one is conventional, is the one I'm planning to buy.
