AC Takes forever to blow cold.
 

I can't find any actual help on this. So like the post says, when the car sits for a few hours, I start it and no cold air... for about 5-10 min. It seems like the car needs to be in the normal part of the temp gauge (not cold) and also I need to rev it above 3k or so just to get it to kick in. I had the R134 removed and replaced and was down .2 lbs but now its back to full, same problem.. When its cold it blows cold the entire time and even if I leave it for up to an hour it comes back on immediately. I can't figure out what I need to replace? the compressor? its compressing fine.. a switch? which one?.

Help.

It might be a problem with the clutch coil or clearance. Whoever did the Freon charge for you should be able to figure it out. If not, you will need to take it to someone who has the proper diagnostic tools and software.

Is the auxiliary fan coming on when you turn on the AC? The fan is one of the most common failures in the AC operation on the X5.

I hear you. I've called German only mechanics and over the phone of course they're stumped. Want me to bring it in for $130 diagnostics. I just hate to pay it when its something I can replace. I definitely won't take it to the dealer they're all about replacing everything without fixing anything.

Hmm.. no I just checked actually. At startup the fan isn't running. I'd have to let it run for a bit until the AC actually kicked on before I can say if it is/isnt when its actually producing cold air.

Unplug the high pressure switch near the compressor and the fan should go full song over a few seconds. This is an easy check for the fan.

I didn’t do that yet but I drove home about 10 min away and the fan was on and blowing cold

These things have the aux fan so they move air across the coil when the car isn't moving or it's moving slowly. If it's not working then it won't blow cold while sitting still, but it will produce plenty of cold air while in motion.

Just to be clear, after the AC starts working it doesnt turn off when i come to a stop... it works like normal even after turning it off and back on again up to an hour or so. Any longer and it will take 5-10 more min to turn on again. When I got home I checked if it was on (yes) turned the car off, waited a min, turned it back on checked the aux fan (yes). tomorrow morning though it wont be on until 5-10 min after running.

Just want to make sure I understand, you're aux fan IS running?
