Mine was fine, no leaks at 186k miles on my 2001 3.0i.
But when I removed it as part of the head gasket repair I did last summer, the pipe just crumbled where the forward end goes into the head. Parts of the pipe were stuck inside the head there, while the rest just crumbled apart as it was removed. And you refer to #7 and #8. The BMW pipe comes with two #7 o-rings installed. No need to buy them separately if buying the pipe.

Thanks all,
I just saw on other forums, people say if you have > 150K miles and the intake manifold is off for other reasons, then replace both pipes: #6 and #8 pipes.
