Parking sensors query

Do pre facelift and post facelift both use the same parking sensors?

This is easy to find out using one of the several online part database sites.

Here's one: http://bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/

Click the link above and enter the last 7 digits of your VIN (or select the correct info that would fit your model/model year/build date etc.

Then go to the Distance Systems Cruise Control diagrams and look for the ultrasonic sensors in the part nbr database.

From there you can usually do or look for two things...look in the TO and FROM columns to see if there is a date range...or click on the part nbr which will show all the BMW models that use the same part nbr. Then click on the model nomenclature to see which of that platform models use the same part nbr. You will be able to tell by the engine number if all or only some of the X5 models use the same sensors.

You may also find that there are multiple sensors and perhaps one may be used in both and one only used in the facelift due to different bumper configurations.

Good luck.

EDIT:

Looks like #4 and #12 are the ultrasonic sensors...and only the facelift models use #12 (two of them in the front bumper and SIX #4s for the rest of the locations). Where as the pre-facelift models use a total of EIGHT #4s in both the front and rear bumpers:
