Ok thanks to all see if i can source some of that 303 stuff out here,...entirely understand that rubber perishes but only reason I mentioned clapped out old Mazda was that it is a 1994 car all rubbers nearly good as new...could be bmw was using a bad supplier of rubber at the time, who knows, the seals are pants

BMW probably used more pure rubber to make more soft when new, Mazda probably had some additives that made it harder when new but they included UV blockers that kept it new
