Thats the door seal.

I'm talking the weatherstrip from windshield leading up the roof

With the windshield getting replaced, I'm replaing it. The ~metal in the rubber~ is fatigued - doesn't tension the way my OCD ways want it.

That's the rubber that runs from the front to the back of the car just above the doors on the roof. Is that the part you are speaking of?

I did look at that part. The more I look at it again, I think that is it.

Indeed. It's held similar to the door weatherseals - rubber with pretensioned metal built into the channels. Mine is not loosey goosey but along the windshield leading to the door, it's not ~super snug~ Drivers side is fine, but the passenger side shifts from time-to-time. Don't notice it till you happen to stand there with the passenger side door open ajar, and you see where it pinches a little...

I think it's designed that way: against the windshield, it's not tight and creates a channel that ducts water up the window over the roof instead of around and onto the side windows. This way, when it's a light rain for example you could have your window down and not get rain from the windshield into the car..

Both my car's exhibit this situation, I thought it was just old rubber that got weak until I had my windshield replaced and post replacement was the same. Anybody here that took delivery of a new E53 that can confirm?

I happened to just notice the Passenger Side where it was -pinching the rubber- when I had the door ajar and just happened to be standing 2 feet away to notice the pinch marks on the ubber.. I tinkered, seal seems snug against the windshield - snug as to the fatherst point but in closing the door, I can see how it pinches. However, when I look at the DS side, and open, close the door, it's not pinching on the rubber.

You don't see the pinch marks with the door closed. It was just coninciental ....that I had the door open and was standing far away enough to see it.

I'm OCD like that....everyone who knows me knows the parts on my car are always fresh, regardless of age of vehicle.....
