I had to remove the three bolts holding the door lock actuator as it was going to be a struggle.
After removing it, you just drop it down a bit and the carrier comes out with ease. No need to worry about the actuator not aligning up with the striker after because there's no wiggle room. Also I noticed the front and rear door carrier are the same at least to the untrained eye and the only difference is the length of the cable. Rear is longer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Spin it around in there. I completely understand the problem you are describing. Flip it over. I forgot the full process, but you pretty much have to spin it clockwise or other, move it down, and repeat. It will come out. Be patient. Putting it back in is just as much fun.

Removing the the bolts and dropping the actuator is much faster and easier for the rear. The door lock rod gets in the way.

But with that said, I'm using new BMW genuine parts and can't get it to line up nicely like it was before. Comparing to the other side that has been untouched there's almost no gap between the handle and lock cover but my left side has like 2mm gap. My OCD is killing me.

Also, the carrier needs to sit EXACTLY right before you tighten the external screw or no matter what you do it won’t operate or look right from the outside.

I made sure the cable was disconnected. There is a ball and a collar, Then I pulled the rod that connects to the lock button motor. AFter that I tilted the mechanism 90 degrees and jiggled it a bit. The problem is the cable sometimes catches on the lock motor. It's a bit tricky but will work. Saw the post about replacing rubber from old unit. I will try this as I too have much trouble making the rear one fit properly. The front one fit like a glove with no issues. Thanks
