Insurance

With the recent windshield fiasco, reviewed my current policy and made some changes on it. Have not really tweaked my policy at all on the X since Day 1

instead of 100/300, I went 300/500 on both
Still full coverage but DUH, bumped collison deduct from $500 to 1K. (should have done this years ago).

Lowered comp, from $500 deduct to $100 deduct.

Just a reminder for those who may not review their policys annually (like me)

I only have liability because i do most of the repairs, i don't see the need for a full coverage for a vehicle this old in years. I acquired a dash cam to capture any accidents (knock on wood, hope it doesn't happen). i pay $95 for three vehicles, e53, e60 LCI, and a passat b6.

Yeah, I got lazy. The only time I really even look at my policy is if I get rate creep or the 4 year inquiry on new leaser.

The houses I keep with 2 seperate ones companies and just requoted all, and no change in carriers. All 3 current insc. companies have done well as far as claims with no rate surcharges.

I thought my insurance had $50 ded. for windshields i was wrong it was $100, so that was a bit of an embarrassing thing; i broke my window by hitting it with my open palm to 'show how tough a window is'; really dumb because my brother did the same thing years ago.

I had to laugh about it or else i'd have to cry about it. Anyhow i called my insurance and they said for $3.20/mo more that i could have $0 ded. comprehensive $250 collision. I pay about $105 for both of our X5s. ooh speaking of which have to make that payment.

'They say' once a cars value is less than $2000 or $3000, the wise choice is to go to liability only, My income level dictates i keep comprehensive and collision, and when i can do that with $250 ded. ($0 comprehensive) for about $53/mo, I'll stick with that plan. I only would save like $5/mo per car to have $500 ded. for collision/comp, it's worth $60/yr to have a painless deductible.

I maintain full coverage on mine as well. Even at 348,000 miles there's not a speck of rust on the vehicle and it has never had any sheet metal damage - only the bumper covers. With State Farm, it's only $13 more per year to take the collision deductible to $250 instead of $500. I've got zero deductible on glass and comprehensive though. My question to the insurance company is always "Can you find me another 2002 as clean as mine, that has been fully maintained to BMW specifications, for the dollar amount you claim its worth"? (It's how I always get OEM windshields as replacements )

2002 X5 3.0 348,500 miles
2014 428i 41,000 miles

2004 325i Sold at 123,600 miles
2001 325i Sold at 66,000 miles

1970 Firebird Under restoration (Insured for a fixed value)
