Dsc/4x4 inop

Hi all,
I have an 06 x5 3.0L. 82000 miles. The other day I was driving and the DSC/4x4 inop Warning came on the screen and the 4x4 warning light came on. The light goes out after restart but comes back on after 35mph. Sometimes the warning comes on the screen as well, sometimes not. Today I noticed if I press the DSC button in park, the light stays on regardless if I press the button again or not. No ABS light. Brought to my indy who scanned it on his BMW computer and it shows nothing wrong. The car seems to be driving fine. No power loss, no weird handling. Need to get in for further diagnostics but have been told from various sources it can be anything from a flat battery to a bad alternator to a bad wheel bearing. Any thoughts before I give up and give to my mechanic to diagnose? Thanks.

Would check for a bad wheel sensor.

Thought the same but the scanner says nothing wrong...and also, no abs light on. Would need to change all the sensors as we would not know which one is the issue.

Yes, should light all up ABS also but--. Might want to check connections for corrosion. Could monitor alternator output with multimeter or unlock cluster to look at real time voltage. Could also have the battery load tested at local auto parts store. Lots of weird stuff can happen when a battery is bad. How long has this been going on?

Just started the other day. The car does very little highway driving and usually a short distance each day. I drive less than 5k miles a year. The battery thing may be a real possibility. Will need to look into that. Thanks.

Just noticed something. Put car away just now. Turned wheel left and right to end several times, set the light off but not the DSC/4x4 inop Warning on the screen.

My AT500 had a bad resistor that caused almost all the same issues as it screwed with the CAN and after testing a good one it fixed all those trifecta errors (without ever entering limp mode) not sure what you may have that could cause a similar issue, but the error wasn't showing up until it got really bad.

Transfer case gear? I feel like intermittent DSC/4x4 lights until gear wore completely. Very cheap DIY repair.

It's not the gear it's the classification resistor that was causing the issues, so it might be something similar on his. But that's just a swag.

I was throwing it out to the OP as possible culprit.
