Rear end feels like it's grabbing or binding under load HELP!

Greetings all and let me start by wishing everyone happy holidays. I purchased a e53 for winter (also a m5 owner). When I purchased it, I knew of the flaws it had at the time. Previous owner had just had it at the shop to replace one of the rear airbag's as it was no good, the pumpkin (rear center section) had grenaded, that's how I got it. (I'm like that, instead of buying a used car for top dollar only to find problems anyway, I prefer to buy one for a good deal that needs a few things so I can go over the whole vehicle and know what I have in the end. So long story short, after a long hunt I found a low km used pumpkin and installed it with all new mounts. I've had to do both front wheel bearings and a few other jobs to it. But the problem I'm still faced with is what feels like a binding up in the rear end once you start getting over say 40-50 km/h.. it cannot do highway speeds without constantly binding and bucking. I've had it up on the hoist and both rear axles are good, no play in the joints, bearings are good, brakes are good etc. I'm at my wits end trying to find the problem.. if I'm accelerating out of say a parking lot it doesn't seem to do it hardly but as soon as I straighten out bump bump bump it's bucking. Throttle response is good, no misfiring or problems there.. transfer shifts perfectly and happen's in manual mode also regardless of gear you're in or rpm range. Could the axles be bad even though they inspect fine? The driveshaft also seems fine no play, guibo is good, same with front driveshaft. Support bearing is also good. I'm out of ideas where to look next and don't want to just throw parts at it or I may wind up building a whole x5 before I'm done..lol. ANY help would be awesome. (No codes in any modules (I'm just trying to relay as much info as I can think of to help the gurus with their assessments)) . All tires are almost identical tread depth. I'm out of ideas.. please help.
Barry

I forgot to mention it's a 2004 x5 4.4l
Also I can't get any response from the hill decent or dsc buttons as I've tried to disable the dsc to see if it made any difference and from what I can tell they have been unpowered via fuse or relay but I highly doubt it could have any bearing on what's going on.

Late model uses xdrive so the transfer case is not just mechanical like the prelci. Not having power to dsc might be an issue. Rear drive sounds like something with the transfer case or rear diff to me. Driveshaft problems would cause clunking/shaking not bucking.

What scanner are you using?

I think you need to have power to the systems that run the DSC etc. Feels like something xdrive related is causing problems. The front can be disengaged with fuse from my understanding so I would do that to eliminate front axle from the contention.

The 2004 is pre-xdrive isn't it? It doesn't have the infotainment system type of user interface nor does it wear a xdrive logo anywhere on it.

From what I've read, to eliminate issues with the transfer case you can by disabling the dsc and if the problem goes away it's likely caused by the system malfunctioning at some point of the chain. If mine is off (it could just be the buttons on the dash that are not working as I've already had to repair the Hazzard and lock switch, so they could need looking at also). But if the system is off.. it shouldn't be causing bucking and kicking when you drive.. there's no abnormal noise from the transfer case either.. so no chain slap or slipping that's discernable. The rear end was just replaced.. whatever is going on is what killed the old rear end.

"BMW invented a new four-wheel drive system dubbed xDrive shared both in the X5 and X3 in 2004. Instead of using the previous X5 system which consisted of power being split 62-38 (rear wheels-front wheels) and DSC to brake wheels losing traction, xDrive could vary power to the front or rear axles in milliseconds, transferring up to 100% of engine power to either axle, thus allowing the vehicle to regain traction quickly."

My best guess - you got the wrong "pumpkin" (differential).

There are several different rear diffs used in the E53 series and while they are all the same from the outside, mounts etc. they have differing gear ratios.

If you have a diff with the wrong gear ratio, it will cause "bucking and binding" as the rear driveline out of sync with the front driveline. The poor transfer case will be having a fit...

Are you 100% sure you got the correct diff?

That makes the most sense. Cutting off the front should help determine if that's true. Wrong ratio it would probably act ecactky as described.

Honestly,
Impossible to have happened. I had a friend at BMW search the part using my Vin. My problem was my truck had the 1347mm and not the 1325mm driveshaft which made the pumpkin rare to come by. Also 4:10 gears which was verified using the Vin of the donor. It is identical down to the numbers. (Already thought of that). Do the rear diffs in the x5 have clutches (I don't think so, all that is controlled via transfer case)
