Parts difference?
Needing odds/ends for head gasket repair. Replacing CCV, throttle body gaskets, intake gaskets, oil filter housing gasket etc. finding wild disparity in price online.
Example. Oil filter housing gasket is $65 on FCP Euro $5.50 at my local Autozone. CCV component kit $135 or $40 at Amazon. Don’t want to be the “stepping over a dollar to pick up a nickel guy” but is there much point in paying up for some of this stuff? I won’t scrimp on head gasket or bolts but, ok on some of the other bits? |

FCP has multiple OFH gaskets/sets. For gaskets stick to known good brands: ie Victor Reinz, Elring, etc. Avoid URO or Dorman.
https://www.fcpeuro.com/BMW-parts/X5...03&m=228&e=180 That $40 CCV kit does not come with all the gaskets and is unknown brand. So who knows. FCP has this kit for $110... https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...11617501566kt7 Saving money on parts is a good thing, and very possible with aftermarket OE suppliers. I really dislike doing a job twice within a 100,000 mile interval so I try to go with known good brands. Some of the really cheap stuff could last okay, but that's an unknown I don't like to deal with.

Thanks. Come to think of it I have used Uro and Dorman coolant tanks with less than stellar results.

BMW's seem to require ~$1000 a year in parts on average. Some years you spend next to nothing, just an oil change, wiper blades, etc. Other years you'll spend considerably more. This is just how it seems to work out for me after having owned e30's, e36's, e46's, e53's, and an e28. The e30's and the e28 were by far the cheapest when it came to maintenance. But they are considerably slower, less safe, and obviously don't have any real tech in them.

I've tried Dorman CCV and the caps where a lose fit on the valve cover.
Returned and got Bosch instead and cap fit nice and tight. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Unless an aftermarket part eliminates a known shortcoming of a stock part, the best practice is to purchase OE or OEM parts from a reputable supplier.
