e53 Vtg module - no comms - only 4x4 light

Ok so iv been trying to sort this for a while and am no further forward.

I bought this jeep blind for little money. The transfer case motor and resistor had been removed and were completely missing. The only light on the dash is the 4x4 light. ABS etc come on and off as they should, even when the motor and resistor were missing, i only had the 4x4 light on. I found this strange as i expected the trio to be on if the motor was disconnected. I have now replaced the motor and resistor but still cannot talk to the vtg module.

In BMWScanner it shows as 'not found' and DIS OR SSS cannot find it either.

I bought a replacement module, fitted it and still 'not found'

Anyone any ideas? I need to do the calibration badly!

I have power at the module so i can only assume that the CAN is down? Is there any other module that would cause no comms with the VTG module? Is it possible that the VTG has been coded out? or that a pre facelift abs module is fitted?

Help!

still have this fault, the rear differential recently exploded and its transpired that the wrong ratio diff had been fitted previously. I assume this is why the servo motor was removed from the transfer case. I have ordered the correct ration diff now and replaced all missing components.

I still have no comms with the VTG module though. Abs light goes out and is working. DSC/4X4 light stays lit on the dash.

The module may have been disconnected or disabled for the same reason the transfer case motor was taken off.

I don't think so. You might need to check if it is still included in the initial list of modules that comes up. It's been a while since i have been messing around with that stuff so maybe someone else can chime in. Hopefully your front diff is still good. Is this something you are going to be re-selling?

no intention of selling, its just a runabout i bought cheap at the start of this year, even with just rear wheel drive it drives fine, but as iv found another piece of the puzzle and have to replace the rear diff i thought id try and get the 4wd working again.

if it isnt showing in the initial list... what then? does anyone know what canbus line it is on, or with what other modules?

If it has been taken off the vehicle order list you cab code it back on with NCS expert. There is a good diagram of the bus lines posted here somewhere.
