Should I put PB Blaster on the headbolts to remove.

I have my m54 3.0 head dissembled all that’s left is to take out the bolts. Trying to follow the prescribed method I started in the corners. So far, with a 2 ft 3/8” torque wrench I’m not able get any to crack loose. (I did test crack a couple the other day #1 and the one next to it on the exhaustside, both seemed to retorque but concerning).

I bought a 1/2 to 3/8 adaptor to use with my 1/2 breaker bar but am concerned I’ll twist of a bolt head. Is there any advantage to putting Blaster or another penetrating oil on the bolts at this point so I don’t bust something?

Followup

Got all the bolts out with a breaker bar. Most of the bolts looked pristine one or two had a line of goo on them about 1/2 way. On the exhaust side middle.

Got the head up on a couple of 2x4 sticks and and engine support ( wish I had a cherry picker). Haven’t been able to remove the rear exhaust manifold yet and runnng out of daylight so gonna try for extraction tomorrow. Glimpses of the gasket and cylinders are troubling. Seeing lots coolant in 2,3,4,possibly 5. Not good.

Residual coolant in the head flowing into the cylinders when you released the gasket...?

Mebbe. One sorta weird thing I thought, a couple of the bolts let out a small woosh of rushing air as I pulled them from the threads. Same two that had traces of goo on them . I need to get the coolant out ASAP. By cranking the engine iguess.

Damn that thing is heavy, especially with a exhaust manifold hanging on.

I wouldn't do that with the timing chain just hanging. Soak it up with towels or rags as Wayne suggested.

Soak up the coolant with shop towels. You'll want to plug the cylinders anyway...

For future reference, impact better for breaking bolts loose with less risk of stripping.

Get your point. I was able to rotate the engine a bit buy supporting the timing and feeding it with fingers. Got dark, Take a better look in the AM.
