I.e. a number plate light, indicator light.
Just tried this and it worked:
Get a battery charger and set it to constant 12v.
Remove licence plate bulb cover, remove bulb, connect positive terminal of battery charger to left bulb terminal, negative to other side.
Now you can open the car using the keyfob as it supplies enough power to operate doors and windows.

Just find a garage and have the X towed there and let the heat warm up the X so that you can use the door handle to open the car. Or else wait until Spring.

- I posted some photos in E39 5-series forum. In the E39, look at the aft part of the LF tire, about 1-2 feet inward is a positive post that goes to starter motor.

- Get a 12V source and apply positive cable at the RED post and a ground on the transmission's body. This is the equivalent of jumping the battery.

- Now operate the remote, the driver door should open...

The more common need for this is you have disconnected the battery to work and inadvertently closed too many ports of entry. I recommend removing the trunk floor when disconnecting the battery for such reason: easier to climb in and open trunk or connect battery etc.

Hello everyone, sorry I got back to you guys late I appreciate the efforts to help next time this happens I will check this thread (very important). AMA came to my rescue the following morning after posting on the page looking for solutions. The roadside assistance was quick he used his tools to open from the passenger side and boom! took about 2 minutes to get that done and we jump started the car and everything went back to normal. Now going back to the driver door issue my driver door has been stuck the door opens from inside but does not open from outside the DHC moves 1/4 and is stiff. I drove the other day around for about 30 minutes came back home closed the door and opened it again the handle goes all the way up smooth but it does not open the door then back to freezing after leaving it overnight. It feels firm not loose at all. I wonder if this is a sign of a broken DHC.

The door latch can freeze in any position without DHC being broken. Warm up the car with a long drive or put some heat with hair dryer into the latch (where grabs the car).

If the outside handle won't drop back down and function almost certainly broken DHC.

See my awr-fix for DHC you can likely repair with a single metal zip tie.
