DIS run in a VM, PIN 17 error?

When using my DIS (from ebay a number of years ago) and an ODBII to USB cable, I can't run any Diagnostic Test Schedules. Every time I do, I get:

Control unit selected has not been Found!
Note:
If Pin 17 in the diagnosis jack is assigned, the following points must be observed:

I have searched this forum, and all over. I can't determine if it's my Software, or the cable - or a limitation of VM DIS.

Can someone please help me to understand

Thank you!

There is a thread in one of the BMW forums dedicated to the BMW software package issues and how to. It has been mentioned here.

If I recall correctly there is a setting I had to go back and correct to get it to link.

I don't use the suite anymore as there are other instruments that are great at diagnostics, easy to use, and very intuitive but there several members do and there have been threads about install issues. https://xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/...iabas-diy.html

This is for INPA only

Not for DIS - and doesn't address the error on pin 17 I'm getting...

Now, I'm not sold on DIS, it's very old, and clunky. If there is something I can buy that you can recommend, I'm stuck trying to diagnose a problem that I can't solve at the moment. I am also in Mexico and can't find a dealer has any diagnostic software at all.

I have a windows 7 laptop to install whatever software will work.

I don't know of any other software you can run on your laptop. The torque pro app with a bluetooth IBUS connector will work on a cell phone. I am now using a Schwaben by Foxwell for BMW/Mini. Easy to use and intuitive.

Any thoughts on the Foxwell 520 scanner?

I think I need to do my throttle body adaptations, and as my DIS seems to be crappy, I was considering buying one of these with BMW software installed.

thank you

BMW's ISTA-D should work - as long as your cable is up to it. There's a great looking guide here: -

That looks complicated as all get out

But - if I can program my throttle body, I'll give it shot - was hoping for something easier, lol.

Thank you for the link, that is a very well written document.

That's the same one I mentioned previously that I use. I just have the private branded version for Schwaben. Do you have an error code verification?
