4.8is question / new to this form - where to start? :xoutpost2:

Hi guys,

New to this form, recently bought 2005, 4.8is e53 with 92k on the clock. So far it has been behaving well - no nasty surprises yet / except sunroof not working due to corrosion of internal parts (quote: 2.5k to replace full with genuine parts)

I haven't used lowering the body button yet and kind of unsure whether to use it or not. Is it possible while lowering the car height it can just fail?

P.S. / at the moment Sydney based. if you see a Blue BMW X5 4.8is with #x5tag number plate - don't be shy, say hello

Get a good scanner (I recommend foxwell nt520 or nt510).

The air suspension is active all the time even when car is off so if it was going to have failed it would likely already be listing to one side and you'd have a dash error.

Were it me I would most definitely try out all the bits and pieces. Find anything out of whack and fix it with help from xoutpost.

Sounds like you have the panoramic roof. There is a conversation to simple sunroof that leaves the back panel stationary. Look into it it's a LOTTT cheaper.

Hi and welcome to Xoutpost!

Post some pics!

As Andrew said, you'd know if you had an issue re the suspension.

My suggestion for this car is that you look into getting yourself a copy of a software program called ISTA. It allows you to reset, TEST and fault find most of the cars systems.

For me it saved a lot of money and allowed me to test my suspension as I found a new issue.....

ISTA can be bought online with a cable to allow connection to the port just under your steering column. Some versions work on a laptop with Win 7, mine is on win 8 and others on win 10. Older versions only work on win XP.

The other thing I would suggest is come on this forum for any faults and use the search button a LOT. Almost every issue ever known to E53's has been either experienced or is known about by someone here.

Do you mind me asking what price range you paid? I'm on the hunt for a blue one myself at the moment for a project and it's tough to find one under 100k mileage....

Cheers

Thanks boys, really appreciate your motivation.

So after long day being at work, I come home aroun 11 pm ish. I tried to lower the height and worked perfectly

And of course went for a quick test drive and also took pictures.

LVR - good luck mate for hunting low kms 4.8is. At least in NSW I have seen 2 BMW 4.8 is in their 60k kms but they were extremely pricey back those days (1 year) and owners asked 30k$ - obviously I did not have such extreme funds. Both of them sold later.

About my car - I bought it from QLD to got it delivered to NSW. Never had chance to physically inspect car. Agreed with owner (very decent guy) to take it to independent mechanic.

Long story short I paid 17k in total. So far, not any small mechanical issue observed (except sunroof cannot open close). I feel very lucky as risk taking kind of worked. From now on if something gets broken - so it should also link to the age of car

That's awesome..!!

I mean awful and you should just let me have it instead...

All joking aside I love my 4.8iS Alpine White, Creme Beige and they are definitely a blast. Make sure you get a scanner as it'll pay for itself with the very first fault.

Absolutely gorgeous. I'm always seeking my next X5. Hoping to find either this color or red. I'm happy with my black inside though that'll make it tougher for sure.
