Lightbulb Excessive gas consumption. Please help

Hi guys. I have E53 3.0 180 mils. My gas milage is craaaazy high. I read lots of articles here and nothing helped me. My daily MPG is 13-14. Roundtrip Orange County - Las Vegas (more than 600 mies) 16.4 MPG (99% freeway cruise control 75mph).

If somebody wants to tell me that it is normal for car like this becouse its heavy suv. 4700lb
For comparison my previous car Mercedes benz E500 V8 4200lb. Daily gas milage 17. Vegas round trip over 23.
Okay MB its lighter and has better aerodynamics smaller wheels but its 5 liter V8.
So when I was buying X5 I was expecting fuel economy about the same.

Obviously there is something wrong with the car. I have to state that the car is running 22" wheels which is not the best for economy but that is not gonna be the problem.

condition of the car:
NO CHECK ENGINE
Oil changed
spark plugs changed
brakes completely changed (no drag at all)
alignment done
tire pressure OK
no gas leak

the only things I see could be problem are:
1) 4x4 light on (trying to localize problem and fix it. most likely steering sensor) appreciate advices

2) MAF sensor recently cleaned with no positive result (could be faulty and needs to be replaced but no check engine)

Any help appreciate. I'm desperate a read every article saw every video. I own the car about 3 months I Love the car like no car before but this is gonna kill me

A dead maf and bad spark plus will give you terrible mileage.

Thanks for your reply. I'm suspecting MAF but I thought it would show check engine light. Maybe it's not completely dead and that's why it's not showing check engine. I'll probably buy new sensor on Monday or the car is gonna eat me alive.

Also verify the actual consumption. Measure a full tank and do some math.

Sad to say those numbers are not much different from mine. I usually drive 75 on the freeway when I can, too. MPG will go up if you slow down, even just to 65. These 3.0i's are great engines in just about every way but MPG.

I felt similar to you when I first got mine almost 5 years ago. It ran great but I was sure it should get better MPG. New O2 sensors, oil change, new spark plugs (all OEM), and no change at all - still runs great, still low MPG. Pass CA smog checks with no problems too.

Yes I did measured it with full tank. computer. trip 735 mil cost me 45 gallons which is 16.333mpg computer showed 17.6 mpg. I usually do full tank about 200 miles that's ridiculous.

Sorry for the dim image. Used flash so it would be clear. 70 indicated over 22 mpg. I can get well over 500 range highway. This is with a typical 500# of tools and sticky winter tires

Yes it is and can be resolved. What scan tool do you have? You need to look at your O2 vakues and fuel trims
