Tranny swap help 5speed to 6speed AT

I have a 2003 4.4 i just bought with a suspected bad tranny. On hard accelerations the car slips and then shifts hard into 3rd and 4th. The abs, traction control and brake lights are on. Ive looked around and heard things about the abs module and what not. Checked the tranny fluid and its full, does need servicing cuz its black. I picked up a 6speed tranny from an 05 4.4 but after looking closley i can clearly see some issues. First my oil lines arent in the sames spots and the tranny data plug is on the opposite side. Any work around or am i screwed?

I plan on using the newer engine in a swap for my e36.

While it's not an impossible swap, moving from a ZF 5HP24 to a ZF 6HP26 is going to be a world of pain... there's more than just the physical items to deal with - there's also the transmission controller and software to sort - which might be very difficult... And I don't know if the transfer cases bolt up the same either (NV125 vs ATC500).

That’s crazy. Gonna say it would be a lot cheaper to get a different 2003 instead of trying to swap stuff that just will never work. Different engine, different software, different stuff bolts up. No way.

Things are never simple with BMW. The devil is always in the details of any "simple" solution. Back about 40 years ago before the complexities of computers, interconnected modules and software nuances I found that out with a "simple" (There's that word again.) engine swap. 6 weeks later I got the car back on the road.
Stick with swapping like for like unless you have the facilities and resources to make drastic changes to everything concerned.

If you place any value on your labor time or frequently need to drive your X5, I suggest selling the 6 speed and either rebuilding what you have if you can DIY or find a used same as what you have 5 speed if you can't DIY.

Impossible to swap.

You will need new engine, engine management. All of body harness. Facelift transfer case. Facelift driveshaft. Facelift front drive shaft. Facelift abs. Facelift abs computer. Facelift sensors and other computer.

You know what. Just get yourself a facelift 4.4 and that 6 speed will bolt up.

Your engine is m62, the 6 speed will fit an N62. I know it’s one letter, but that letter will cost you a new 4.4 to do what you want.

You say you have the engine, but do you have everything else I listed. That’s just the quick shit I came up with. There will be a lot more that you need to swap.

That’s for the best. Trust me. And as BC stated. It’s a lesson.
