[SOLVED] Ignition switch or clockspring slipring SOLVED

SOLVED. ignition switch. Took it apart and just as the sun settled, I realized I had a perfect file set. Cleaned each of the 6 contacts. File fit perfect. Put it back together. No more messages everything works perfect.

At same time I suffered a loose hose clamp on power steering reservoir. WTF. I personally swapped all the hoses about 4 years ago. Must have loosened a bit. Was significantly lose. Anyway. Added CHF11s. Cleaned the steering U joint, and gave it a solid dose of lube. All good now.
=========================================

Few days ago I get and airbag light on my dash. I think nothing of this. I sometimes get random shit for passenger seat occupancy. Usually goes away on its own in a couple of min. This time, it stayed on. It’s fine, I get Inpa fired up, and get a supply voltage too low error on driver airbag.

Reset, go for a ride, light turns on again within a block. But this time I notice that my steering wheel lights go out, and I have no function control. No phone, volume, nothing.

As I turn the wheel, the lights on wheel come on, and go out with every turn. A good smack on wheel also gets the lights to turn on occasionally.

I also have a few thousand stored error codes for multifunction steering wheel connectivity.

So I’m leaning toward a shot clock spring. Wanted to get advice before I click the checkout button.

You're going to have it all apart for the CS and the switch can be had for around $40 last time I checked so do both.

Isn't this kit for the SAS, not the clockspring?

Anywho… this fault sounds like the clockspring - and there's no fixing the item itself - except for replacing it. It's a flexible PCB - a long thin one, wound up - inside a plastic housing.

I've seen the results of "repairs" on these things - not pretty. :-)

Hey Zulu, want to donate the slip ring for a good cause?

Not sure if its compatable with 2006. Not too terrible a price it seems. About $136 on ECS.

Ty all.

I agree with wpoll. Replace it rather than try to repair it. Might want to pull it apart before you purchase the part to verify problem is not wiring issue. Ignition switch failing can cause weird stuff to happen but I haven't heard of steering wheel lights as a symptom.

Yea just talked to my mech. Also suspects slip ring. Slip ring is what provides power to the wheel and airbag. He has seen it to cause all sorts of other problems, just like the switch.

Ignition switch is an item for another time. Don't even have to take off the wheel to get to it, so I will save the $100 for something else. lol.

Yea I have seen some of the slip ring repairs. Looks nasy, and above my soldering skills. I will deff take it apart for science.

Well shit. It’s not the clock spring.

I got the new clock spring yesterday. And before I could put it in, I was driving and my radio would turn off then random on.

I almost knew that my clock spring was fine by then, but put it in anyway. Didn’t fix anything.

Now my issue has gone worse. My lights are turning on inside randomly. My visor lights do not work at all. My horn still gone. Airbag light still on. And all of a sudden my steering is doing some crazy shit. It is literally locking up random. Super dangerous level of lockup. About to park this until I get this sorted. No funny noises at lockup, no slipping, grinding, nothing. All of a sudden let’s go and continues a bit more till some more random lockup. Wtf.

I’m pretty sure my problem is now the ignition switch, but can this possible affect steering?
