One other observation...Driving with code 6 showing indicated I generally had lots more right side fuel indicated by the last three digits, typically over 7 liters. Maybe the static reading I took was affected by the tight right turn I took into a parking place.

Helper to hold things or at least a vice will help removing things without breaking. It's not hard to open the seal with the o-ring it's the other that is difficult. If you take your time and use a couple small screwdrivers you can. Open without breaking. You can hold together with a hose clamp if needed if it breaks. I think I used zip ties in my wife's when the tab snapped off.

Posting an update in case someone searches and finds this thread...
The O ring was split. I was able to get a complete transfer pump assembly from our local LKQ for $8.00 so I bought it when I was finding parts for another project. For that kind of money it was worth it in education value to analyze this on a workbench. My opinion is that it would be difficult to pull off the hoses intact and replace the unit so it's better to fix it in place. Thank you to those of you who provided valuable input. I will be watching the code 6 values for a while. Currently I'm seeing 430130 in the driveway, 394159 on a more level stretch of road and 382151 shortly thereafter. Are these normal values for those more experienced in such things?

You can only really tell "normal values" when the tank is about 1/4 tank or less. As the left side gets below about 27.5L, the right side will be about 1.4L and stay there until the left side is zero.

I call that the "flood stage" where any fuel over 1.4 on the right gauge will flood/spill over to get left side.

The key tests of the test six are when it's full it will be 82 total, 55+27, which is ten liters less than capacity since the floats hit the roof about 1/2" before full. (This means for the first 60 miles or so the floats are pegged to the top)

The next key is when you hit the food stage where the left will be about 27.5 and the right will be about 1.4.

The most important test is next: the right should not drop below 1.4·L until the left side is empty.

If the right side drops to zero, get fuel immediately, then keep at least 1/4 tank of gas until you repair your siphon jet o-ring.

The last important test is this: test six has an instant measure of gas level and an average value, if those are not close to each other (secondary symptom of fuel gauge not going to full when you top off the tank) means one of the sending units is sending erratic values.
