Dead battery what to do? what is this beeping?

O.K so this is what happen. Have not been driving my e53 for a while. Been charging my battery every month or so.

So I unlock my door no problem pop the hood plug in battery tender. Started to hear this beeping sound. So I unplug everything and check the battery 2 volts.

So what is this beeping sound????

So I reconnected the battery tender hoping to charge the battery. The battery tender indicated an error after two minutes (expected that since the battery tender can not charge a completely dead battery.

So where to go from here. I plan to get my old battery charge (one that can charge a completely dead battery) and see if charge my old battery. If that does not work new battery.

You folks see any down side to this plan??? Any suggestion???

Also if I change the battery can I (and should I keep the battery tender plug in so I would not lose my settings.
