Most likely that used module has to be coded first.

Not so sure. It's already passing through data from the TC. Like with ABS if it's close enough it will just work. (but I would like to know for sure).

Same module used on E83 too. There are also several coding options on that module for example depending on the engine model.

Now Thats what I was thinking but this module is so basic that I thought maybe the gamble will pay off. life mentioned above close enough is indeed close enough. I would think that if it was a coding issue their would be much more codes coming from it instead of oil life.

Hey Andrew thanks for the reply. I had already changed the gear awhile ago. I heard the actuator move once while testing. I know the transfer case has fluid and brake light has always been red. I have never heard any noise at any speed from the driveline I think if it was excessively worn I would hear something. In either case I don’t think trying to calibrate the oil life will hurt anything while I order fluid for this turd.
Mind you I have now put 2k miles on this vehicle with all the issue stated above.

Newbie X Owner with Trifecta and More
when the tc has an internal fault, it just disables itself and the front no longer gets any power.
When I did the post mortem autopsy on the TC I replaced it looked perfectly ok with regards to the gears etc, so I'm not sure what died but I think it was the clutch wear surfaces. The oil was black and the burnt smell was terrible: made the garage stink for a couple weeks. Researching before I replaced the TC, and found a few examples of the internal fault, none that recovered. I didn't see any way for the rear to disengage which doesn't align with BMW's claim of 100% power to either axle, maybe that's for newer models. I had to drive the one I repaired 75 miles not knowing if the bull gear was 90% through the teeth and about to just split apart and join me in the cabin. It appeared to me that I could have driven 1000s of miles After replacing the TC and cleared codes all back to normal and the lurch at 1500 rpm disappeared. The RED brake apparently is the TC is blown signal. Oddly it also represents the opposite side of the spectrum= e brake engaged or also low brake fluid. BMW techs have said can also be the control module. Drain a little fluid onto a white paper towel and see if it's smelly and dark, if so sadly I think the TC is toast. I found a used one for $500 with shipping and 6mo warranty. I charged my client flat rate of $300 to install. Add the $50 or so for fluid and another $10 for replacement bolts for the exhaust and $860 is not bad considering the alternatives. Pull your actuator motor and apply 12v fwd and reverse or run a test mode if you scan solution provides it. When I pulled the actuator and had it hanging down by the power cable and ran the test mode with foxwell nt510, it ran fine and that's when I was sure the thing was blown

So the new module is in I drove it around Friday and had a power line error for e VTG. Cleaned the plugs again Re-greased calibrated the unit with ISTA. While doing this I also calibrated the transfer case actuator and seen the actuator angle number change. So it seems the module is changed and happy with car now.
I will drive it for a bit to see if anything else changes. I have some other small stuff to address in the mean time. So far the only reoccurring code is for the DSC module, verified power to the unit so ISTA is saying it’s time for new unit. Oddly enough it seems like I can calibrate the module through test functions fine. I will look more into this Tomorrow. No difference in my lights on the dash.

Hello from Europe. In the beginning, sorry for my bad english… I have 3.0D M57 135kW - manual trans.
I had a trifecta yellow lights (dsc, brake fluid and abs). I get off the engine, lock the car and unlock, started the engine and the light's didn't shine). It's interesting, that the trifecta lights up ONLY, when i drive 15-30 minutes on the highway (in the city rides no). When my friend také i DELPHi diagnostic - it shows this faults: DSC -29 steering angle invalid -6C brake fluid level switch -5A short power interruption Do you know, what could be wrong? ABS-DSC control unit or angle sensor on steering bar? When i stay and turns steering Wheel full left and full right, nothing happens, brake fluid is in normal surface.. Thanks a lot! |

SAS are known to wear out and give you the symptoms you describe.
Get a foxwell scammer 5xx series I found out a couple days ago that the NT510 can sync a SAS. What color was your BRAKE light? If red it usually means low fluid. If not actually low trace the probkem. Usually trifecta on after a while means the internal of DSC is going bad but if you are having a code for SAS that's the prime suspect. I get a random trifecta about every 8 months from SAS blip.
