Good call on the hitch.
Ews,DME, ignition incl antenna ring. Instrument panel Door actuators Seat bottoms (4 bolts to remove seats, two more to extract the seat bottom). The motors in there have a couple irreplaceable gears. Also passenger side has flakey butt detector. Starter Alternator Fan/clutch Electric fan Door switches esp driver. If auto closing hatch def grab the latch that's like $450 at a dealer. Rear seat sun shades (takes 5 minutes) Sap! Very expensive part MAF Coil packs maybe just half If time permits: if V8: grab the trans selection switch also very pricy part and on V8 external. BST: cut it out it can be spliced in to replace a blown BST that's probably $250 at a dealer. MID if not Klingon text. Door handle carriers. I'm sure if I was actually doing a tear down I might think of more. Id probably pull the front knuckles complete and even CV with them if they aren't original.

Also...
Wheels, interior trim, all relays, head/taillights, sliding cargo floor and steering wheel... And for the love of God check for under-ride bars $$$ I would say that if the things you need are done or you are running out of time grab the highest priced stuff that you've seen on this forum that we've complained about then trade or sell for your items. As noted, pull the hitch ONLY if it is an OEM hitch and if it is, make sure you take all 10 pieces to the Hitch assembly incl. bumper support, wiring, trailer module (mounted near battery) and all hardware
Otherwise, I would grab: seats if they are better than yours, battery if good climate control module pieces of of un-cracked trim alternator I might take whole doors if any of yours are rusty spare wheel if any good headlights |

Hi Guys,
Great responses. This is all kinda fun. I have had the X5 for a year and I have replaced some parts (all from a wrecker); aux fan, coolant overflow tank, water pump, rear window regulators, DCS module, rear door sun shades, quite a few door card attachment brackets and driver side air bag module (including squibb connector) and climate control module. I also snagged a fan clutch, yaw sensor, wheel sensors, switches, tons of connectors, bulbs, bulb carriers, nuts, bolts, instrument cluster (wrong one), DSC modules (2), washer fluid pump (2), center storage console, trim pieces and a pile of other small parts. I also pulled an OEM trailer hitch. I originally jumped at a trailer hitch from a wrecker on line that turned out not to be OEM and I got my money back. A few months later I stumbled on one and because of this forum pulled all the components and installed it in a half day. Since stumbling on that first OEM trailer hitch I have seen 3 other OEM hitches. Another guy was pulling parts from an X5 and I pointed one out and told him how great they are and I then helped him pull the parts (making sure he got them all, including the module) for his X5. Is there still a demand for these OEM hitches? I think it is sad that these hitches (and all the X5 parts) are heading to the scrap/smelting yards. If there is some interest I would consider pulling one when I next see it (although having said this after seeing three in the last three months I will not see another for a year, but I will keep an eye out). PARTS LIST SO FAR Starter Alternator Valve Covers Cylinder Head ECM / ECU, DME, EWS, Ignition, Key, Door Lock Set (Ignition incl. antenna ring) Door Actuators Seat Bottoms (plus motors and butt detecters) SAP (Secondary emission control air pump SAP 1172 1437910) MAF Coil Packs (I would take all of these with the cylinder head) Coil pack connection housings Trans Selection Switch (TRANSMISSION NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH M2614) BST (replaced the original already, but why not another) MID (my pixels are starting to die) Front knuckles (and CV) - I have replaced a CV Boot and thought I would snag the full axles if in good shape). No wheels (not an option) All Relays Interior trim pieces (if they match) Steering wheel (was not thinking about this, but great suggestion) Under-ride bars (had not thought about these but I will look) ABS Module Complete (only took the DSC module last time) Air Suspension Solenoid Valve Block No battery option Doors (was planning on two if good. No rust on mine but a bit of a crinkle at the driver side pillar) Headlights (I took bulbs and sockets previously) Climate control module (redundant, but what the hey) Instrument cluster (I am planning to get another instrument cluster but I will post this in another topic because I need a bit of help with drill or pull to get at the pixel card. |

Is this one day 24 hours of work? That is a lot of stuff for just one day. Hopefully you can get everything or at least the stuff you need or think you need...

Hi Brad,
8 hours. When these cars have come up before I have had good luck getting the parts I have needed, but I thought I would try to get a list together to try to get as much as possible for this next opportunity. |
