I’ve removed it before with a wire wheel but it comes back. My truck never sees rain so it only gets wet from occasional car washes. When I removed my old wheels there was a layer of rust on the wheels where it mounts to the hub center. I’m probably over thinking it but with a brand new set of shoes I’d like to not have that surface rust on my new wheels if I can help it.

You need to coat with grease to avoid the rust issue. There will likely be some surface rust but not enough to get anywhere near visible. If you pre-treat with some naval jelly to stop the rust than any anti rust coating perhaps even paraffin.

I have to remove my rotor to change my bearing tonight is the plan. I'll likely sand off the rust and coat with grease but some antisieze on the center.

Not sure but....

Try some TW25B and if you're near a military base it should be pretty easy to find. Keeps everything clean and stands up to high heat (over 500 rnds cyclic) and still kept a 240B going in Afghanistan dust storms...

I use Copper Anti-seize .

Ignore the "unclean" wheel well and ugly wheel bolts. All replaced and cleaned along with painting the calipers with epoxy silver paint to match the fronts.

- Some rust from the round portion of the hub will get onto the aluminum wheel. That is not the issue. The issue is seizing (galvanized reaction), making wheel removal very difficult.

- The solution is anti-seize, which I use around the hub where it meets the wheel, just a thin layer is good enough. I also apply a tiny bit of anti-seize on the wheel lugs.

- The aluminum wheel will ave another issue: road salt collecting at the bottom, creating corrosion. In the winter, every time it gets above 32F, try some warm water to rinse off the salt. I usually go to the self-serve car wash place, where you insert $2 and wash the car myself.

The issue for me is rust was getting on my old wheels. I'm going to use a wire wheel and get all the rust off the hub, and maybe put a thin layer of rustoleum followed by some anti seize and call it a day.

Thanks all!
