What I also learned was that the bolt is just the correct size so almost impossible, for me at least, to get it lined up and start the thread in the bushing (nut). What worked for me was getting a longer bolt at the hardware store and starting the bushings threads and getting the bushing seated tightly. Then remove the longer bolt and replace it with the proper bolt. Spent way to much time on my first regulator replacement. Brad

If anybody wants to put together a tool kit for E53 window repair, Here is what you need:
-T-20 Torx driver -Medium Philips head -8mm nut driver -Front and rear window clips ( you need two for front and one for rear) -Blue Loctite - keep screw from backing out. -Duct tape - to temp re-seal vapor barrier if ripped. -Piece of word or pipe to prop up window (if unable to repair) -Small and large plastic trim tools (thin narrow and thin wide is best) I might add a long bolt the same thread as locking bolts to draw in securing bolt per BradB's suggestion - Great Idea! I had a window fail on a family trip this past summer. And I just had two others fail in freezing weather - son did not know to leave windows alone in freezing weather. Great list.
What else I learned was not to muscle the airbag connector. Bonehead move led me to an airbag light for a time until I discovered my mistake. Not an easy part to find. The dealer has a solution though its a cable that goes from the airbag all the way to a module when, for me anyway, I just needed the connector. Found one at a junk yard that was willing to cut the wire. Probably paid 4 x what it was worth. Got the job done though. No more airbag light. Not certain if the light means no airbag will deploy or just not the airbag that had the connector problem. Don't want to find out either. Brad
