![]() I cleared all the errors yesterday and will rescan today. I'm thinking there could in fact be something with the cluster. Looks like the cluster is the gateway to all the other modules as per this picture ![]() As to the 3 errors related to the lights: - rear lights error - rear stop light error - brake line error I'm wondering if these errors could cause the DSC and ABS lights to come on, and ABS and DSC are causing the engine fail prog? |

Thanks guys!
Let me connect those pins 7 and 8 and I'll report back. Will try to replace the MAF today. Also my OBDII port is kinda loose....I'll maybe remove the panel and check the wiring there |

Check the OBD2 block for cracks and loose pins also, mine was cracked and gave me fits on staying connected and I had to replace it completely.

I connected pins 7&8 as advised, and boom!
I was able to scan lots of modules. I found out why the trunk lid was popping when I turned off my lights. At first i got a trunk latch from the scrap yard, but after replacing it the problem remained. I took apart the piece with the trunk button and everything was corroded. This explains how the trunk lid was shorting with the licence plate lights. The OBDII port seems to be doing fine. I cleared all the errors in all the modules and will rescan tomorrow. Unfortunately I was unable to get the MAF sensor as the only X5 at that scrap yard was 4.4L I'll try again tomorrow with another yard. I have to restart my car way more often now, maybe 10-15 times on my way to work, which is only 5 km. I'm thinking it's because of the MAF sensor. I tried disconnecting it altogether but things didn't improve. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Here is a link to one of our members that found a 3.0 MAF remanufactured for cheap. It may be worth a try to have a decent MAF.

Unfortunately I'm in Canada and can't order that MAF from Ebay (no delivery).
I'll try to come up with something. In the meantime I scanned all the modules and will get started on learning German ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Bmwe5320023.0; 01-31-2020 at 10:07 AM. |

Ok, long story short, IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY.
Whoever said to fix tail lights to get the car from cutting power off was incorrect. Just replaced it, drove to work and not a single glitch!!! My throttle body was nice and clean, but I bet the electronic sensor was toast. No wonder I was getting so many errors pointing to the throttle!! ![]() ![]() ![]() I hope my story helps someone to fix the engine fail prog+dsc+abs issue! Such a relief not having the car die on me on every road every couple of minutes!! |

No one said that fixing the tail lights will result in fixing your limp home mode or your cutting power off. The point being made, one you should really understand, is that these cars are extremely sensitive to voltage issues and problems because they have a multitude of interconnected sensors and modules, that don't do well when there are electrical issues. Happy for you that this wasn't the issue. Sent from my HD1907 using Tapatalk

Excellent. Next up should be to locate that fuel smell and then on to the rear wiring.
