I've read TIS but I feel that pic is for the e38/e39 and the e53 has a different aux pump. I just opened my cap and screw now with the heat on 90 and fan on lowest setting and coolant came shooting out of the screw hole making a mess with no bubbles. My e38 does not do this as I feel the pump it has is integrated into the heater valves and much weaker. I then closed the screw and let the coolant circulate while watching the stream within the expansion tank with the cap still off until i saw no bubbles. The reason I ask is because my 88c tstat in my e38 runs ktemp of 90-95c max and the 4.6 seems to be 97-102c even while driving at highway speeds with it being more at 101-102 at those speeds. The e38 runs at the cooler temps while driving at highway speeds and usually stays steady around 93c with normal street driving so I attempted another bleed which didnt seem to make any difference. The heat is scortching HOT...

If heating is hot at idle and while moving. I think you're good. Just check cold fluid level a few times as the few small bubbles left make their way to the expansion tank.
Or are you asking if it should be running cooler with the lower temp thermostat? If that's the case, sorry, I don't have any experience running a lower temp tstat on an m62.

Re-read your post. Duh, you were asking if you should be running cooler. Sorry, reading > me with that last post apparently. Sorry.
![]() A quick google search says normal M62b46 operating temp is 105C.

Yep, was just trying to give a frame of reference. I would expect it to run a little cooler as well, especially since you just replaced your fan clutch and blades. Hopefully someone who has made the conversion will chime in.

I was going to ask if the thermostat is electrically controlled, as that would require some coding or wiring change to alter the set-point, wouldn't it?
And wow - a 100watt resistor? That gonna be rather large. :-)
