Also are there any other parts I need to go with the system? I heard I also need the gong. I saw on other threads that it's under the dash but not sure if they are talking about the PDC gong or the normal gong. Or am I confused and the current gong in my car can be used for PDC?

Thanks

Here's the BMW PDC retro-fit instructions - they might clear up a few of your questions...

Thanks, that will help me a lot when I install it. Last thing I'm a bit confused about- based on some other old threads I found it seems like the facelift cars had a different PDC setup. My car is from 07/04 and the retrofit guide you posted says something about cars after 04/04 being different? I also saw something about front corner sensors being different on the facelift?

Thanks

On pre-facelift all front sensors are the same with straight connector. On facelift the front corner sensors have 90 deg. angled connector. As the location of front sensors is slightly different on these models it affects how the PDC module is coded regarding sensor sensitivity to distance.

Yeah, what Clavurion said..!

I don't think there is much in the way of retro-fit instructions for the face lift cars - they pretty much all came with PDC standard ( I thought)....

Most of them with any options at all probably have PDC but my car and many I've seen for sale seem to come with this base package. I guess it was common on dealer lots or something. It has no cold weather so no heated seats or washers, base MID with no DSP, and I think the base Dakota leather seats with no lumbar. It does have pano sunroof and adaptive bi xenons. For some reason for the past few days none of the VIN decoders have worked for me so I can't check what options I have.

Wondering if I can use the pre-facelift module and sensors and re-code the module sensitivity. Found this thread on calibrating PDC where it seems like the values can be changed. Could be an interesting project but no idea if it will work out. Right now the only adapter I have is a Resler IBUS for my Android HU. Anyone know if I can use INPA, NCS Expert/Dummy, etc. (never used them just know the names from reading threads) with a Resler interface? Also probably not getting a 4.8is front bumper anytime soon so to install front sensors in a normal facelift bumper do I just drill holes? I thought I saw something about extra plastic pieces that clip on for the retrofit.

Thanks

The front PDC uses the gong under the dash that is already there for door open, etc chimes. You will need to add the rear gong that sits just next to the rear fuse panel on the right side. I retrofitted front and rear PDC in my X5 and the wiring is all there on LCI models. I would also suggest getting the button strip on the console with the PDC on/off button as it is nice to have the light indicator for fault or simply turning it on or off. All those pieces can be had on fleaBay for under $20 each.

Old thread but giving an update - unfortunately the seller just disappeared. Kept telling me days they would be home and then when the day came they would reschedule. Told me one day that they will be back next month. Later said they are a truck driver in a busy time and not sure when they can come to town. Tried to get a hold of them periodically for the next few months but no response so I just gave up . Scam comes to mind but they never asked me to send money in advance or anything so not sure what the point was of advertising, then pushing the time back again and again, then disappearing? lol

Thumbs up

I don't believe it. Almost exactly a year later and I get a text from this guy.

Seems like pulled all the parts off the car and got rid of it as he told me he has various parts in his garage. Looking like the valance piece on the rear bumper has some bad scratches. $550 for the bumper and arches seems pretty high considering I don't think I can get by without a repaint. Going to go see it soon and decide if it's worth negotiating based on paint condition or just leaving it. I guess I expected it to be damaged but still pretty sad considering it's the same color as my car.

I also asked about the PDC module and rear footwell lights. Re-reading this thread also reminded me about the gong (thanks!). Need to ask about that. He has the module but footwell lights have their connectors cut off. Is it okay to run the 4.6 PDC module with only rear sensors? Unfortunately I don't think I'll ever end up doing the front.

Also I did get the button panel up front from a pick-your-part months ago. Somehow found a 3.0 with rear heated seats (!!!) so grabbed the rear buttons too. If the interior was black I would've picked up the entire rear seat but just don't have the space . If I'm putting a button panel with fake front heated seats might as well do the back too .

Before I proceed, if someone could help me confirm that this will all work out that would be great!

- I have a facelift 3.0 base (only options are adaptive bi-xenon and pano roof) w/ Android HU and I-BUS app

-Parts are from a 4.6is (other than front button panel with PDC button)

- End goal is 4.6/8is rear valance and arches + rear-only PDC
- I did find some threads on arches but I'm a bit confused. IIRC I have seen pics of 4.6/8is without running boards so I assume I can do rear arches without them? Can I do front arches from the 4.6 parts car without a front 'is' bumper (assuming seller will sell just arches), or do 4.6/8is cars even have front arches or just rear?
-Do I need to do coding for the PDC or can i configure it with the I-BUS app?

Thanks!!
