Try one piece first. I did it all with confidence and well wish I tested it on 1 piece first. I asked Paul about the application pads which are just paper towels, but he said he has used these for years and does this for dealership in the georgia area with great results...

Why not just repaint them? Sand, fill any imperfections as necessary .If it's the trim I'm thinking of?

I am doing this all by hand using a microfiber cloth...

Here's my results. I used 5 coats, yes 5, of the "restorer" per trim piece. Only did 2 as I was testing effort vs results.

First piece: I fully taped off the piece. Then cleaned with IPA. Then wet sanded fairly quickly with 2000 grit wet/dry paper. Made probably 3 passes with the sanding. Cleaned everything up and used the included "cleaner" which I suspect is just IPA as well. Then applied 5 coats allowing 3-5 minutes between coats for the ridges to come down. Results were not too bad, but obviously much more labor intensive than hoping for. Would take a whole day to do the entire truck.

Second piece: I wanted to use the method displayed in the video. So taped off and cleaned with their cleaner. Then went at it using the same 5 coat application method I used on the other piece. Results were VERY meh. The wetsanding seems to be crucial on trims as old as ours.

Conclusion: Like anything else I guess, it takes hard work to get good results. Definitely NOT the magic in a bottle solution we were hoping for. I am guessing, just guessing, this is a ceramic coating that the seller gets wholesale and then divies up into trim sized kits. Nothing wrong with this practice, everyone's got their hustle. And I bet this process works great on its intended audience vehicle, lease returns on dealer lots, or owners with cars less than 10 years old. The youngest E53 is 14 years old soooooo, yeah, more work is necessary.

The paper towel application is not the issue. It's the amount of oxidation on our trims. It will all come off, but with a lot of work. Going to use another method that a buddy just shared with me and will report back on that in a separate thread. If that turns out well, I'm going to use this stuff afterwards as a sort of "sealer" as I believe it's a form of ceramic coating.

He's getting great results on dealer lots I'm sure as those cars are mostly under 5 year old lease returns.

I applied a couple more heavy coats and it seems a bit more glossy but still a bit streaky. Almost seems like a back to black kind of coating as it gets sticky pretty quickly. I may try one more coat later on and call it quits...

First coat almost seems like a primer coat really. Doesn't change the appearance at all after it starts curing.

Applied another coat to the pillar strips only. My bottle is almost empty. This is a semi wet look so lets see how it looks when it dries.
