The b58 is getting me around town, so far seems good. No noises or anything, it's smooth. I think maybe I did okay. I haven't done any pulls yet but it sounds fine up to redline. I don't know how long it will take to stop being nervous.

I put the front tension struts on completely upside down, and then I had to take the whole front suspension apart and the axles out to put them on the right way. And then I tore the one axle boot trying to force the arm ball joint down in there. It fired up two weeks ago and I'm finally driving it because I didn't take a picture of the suspension. Usually everything only goes on one way...
Thanks for the thoughts Factory that’s the right call, despite the expense. I ordered a new pump from getbmwparts.com this am. I was hoping to spend that money on a flywheel and clutch. I think I’m just going to go with an OE dual mass m5 or 540 setup, rather than have something else to learn and sort out, like a single mass flywheel more performance focused clutch.

I had no idea you could put those things on upside down! Did you drive it that way, or did you catch it before driving it?

As far as not worrying, I’m not sure it ever stops. Even after 20k on some of these parts I rebuilt, I still hear every squeak, knock and other noise and wonder if it is the diff, xfer case, motor, etc. coming apart. It’s funny how I never thought twice about this stuff when I had/have a shop do the work.
