Ah ha, loaded what came with the cable, will look for latest version & reinstall. Maybe with newer version i will get the same looking page as overboost.

Do you know if would have to unistall the version i have & install the newer or can i just update the software?

Turning off 2-press locking and auto 5kmh locking is the first thing I do when I get a used BMW

Isn't GM5 only on E46, E52 and E83.

Yes, but the screenshot Overboost posted above is showing ZKE5…

Maybe that’s why the recent poster is seeing something different..he has ZKE3

Ok, so yeah looks like the different versions of the zke were giving me the different options list, as previous posters said.

So i clicked off the locking options & now have 1 click unlock. Pretty sure when i tried it the other day i was trying to unlock the doors with the doors open, dumb yeah i know.

So while im / more my wife is happy to have one click unlock, i now have to replace another f#%king door handle carrier, broke the LHF on first attempt at opening. Not to pollute this thread with off topic but i have replaced every one twice in the 3 uears of having this car. Admittedly these have all been ebay replacements so the old get what you pay for i suppose, is there a “better than most” non genuine replacement that you have had longer term success with?

EBay DHCs aren't much worse than OEM - except for fit.

Technique helps. Teach yourself (and your family) to always open the door with a thumb on non-moving door hand part. It's hard to break a DHC with the force of only four fingers - easy when you jerk the whole handle with a full fist driven by your shoulder.

I've been very careful when opening my 2001's doors, from inside and outside. Long before I got the X5, I had been reading up on "X5 problems" on the internet, and saw that the doorhandles were a top 10 problem. When I received the X5 (swapped a Chevelle for it), I immediately had to start using the driver's door/lock to get in, since the only key had a failing/failed battery, so the remoter was not working; I was worried that the mere use of the key in the lock would break something, everytime I used it.


That was 22 months ago, and I soon fixed the key & remote problem, so I've not used the "key" to get in, since then. I also take precautions when using the doorhandles (gently), and never let my wife open her door (she breaks automotive stuff, as a matter of course).

I also have a '09 Chevy HHR Panel, which are notorious for broken inside doorhandles, but I also read-up on HHR problem prior to purchase in 2008; others on the HHR forum have said they've broken several handles, while mine are still perfect (but now that my wife uses it as her daily driver, that may not remain the case).

Oh I have tried teaching the wife & kids, it goes alright for a week or so then when i come home from being away at work I see them yanking the damn thigs again. im getting prety quick at them now though lol. the other thing they love to do is slam the damn doors, i can see the car wince everytime trying to hold its B & C pillar trims inplace & not blow its window regs apart. have changed every reg & couple twice. These again have been ebay jobs , maybe should be getting better quality of these that might be more durable.

Its an 05 diesel black on black sport that had 90KM when i got it in 2020 for sub $10k, so thought it would be nice for the wife & go well with my 39 530iT which it does, & i love the truck, but probabl should have bought her something japanese lol

I have another issue with a key i programmed with an ak90, but ill make a new thread for that so as to not mix topic this thread too much more.
